LAZY DAZE FESTIVAL RATED THE COUNTRY’S BEST ONE-DAY FESTIVAL AMONG CLASSIC & CONTEMPORARY FESTIVALS

Cary-based festival climbs to the top 25 list among the nation’s best

CARY , NC – First it moved from number 58 to the number 30 spot, and now the Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival has climbed the chart again, taking the 23rd spot among the nation’s best Classic & Contemporary festivals.  Sunshine Artist Magazine, America ’s premier art show and festival magazine, made the announcement in its September 2006 edition that featured the “200 Best” – a compilation of the 100 top-selling shows in two categories, Fine Art & Design and Classic & Contemporary Crafts.  Only one other North Carolina festival was listed among the top 25 – the Craftsmen’s Christmas Classic Arts & Craft Festival in Greensboro coming in at 5th place in the Classic & Contemporary category.  The rankings are based on the amount of sales at the event.

“We’re honored once again to bring home this top honor,” said Festival Coordinator Joy Cox.  “Lazy Daze is one of our largest and most celebrated festivals, and this award is one more example of Cary being home to the best arts and entertainment in the region.’

Sunshine Artist Magazine has been compiling the list of the top-selling festivals in the nation since 1993.  Events in the Classic & Contemporary Crafts category are geared toward traditional and modern styles of craftwork, handmade by exhibitors, while events on the fine art and design list are geared toward one-of-a-kind items and museum-quality pieces in 2-D and 3-D.

Lazy Daze was first held on August 27, 1977 to bring artists into the downtown Cary area and to encourage area residents to explore downtown.  Thirty years later, the Festival is a signature event for the Town of Cary , annually welcoming more than 50,000 people into the historic downtown to experience an amazing array of exceptional arts and crafts.  Festival proceeds go to supporting arts activities, downtown and Town of Cary initiatives.

Lazy Daze is held the fourth Saturday in August each year.  The Town will begin accepting applications for artists for next year’s festival in November 2006.
