CARY TO KICK OFF FOURTH OF JULY FESTIVITIES MONDAY

Holiday Events Include Fireworks, Games & Boathouse Dedication

CARY, NC –Beginning Monday, July 3, the Town will reawaken the patriotic spirit with two days filled with free and entertaining activities to honor the nation’s forefathers at the Fred G. Bond Metro Park, 801 High House Road leading up to the Triangle’s best fireworks display on July 4th at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park.  Eating, fishing, contests, and games are just a few of the ways the Town of Cary plans to celebrate Independence Day 2006.

On Monday, the Applause! Touring Troupe will present its third annual tour of “We the People”, a patriotic play.  The play will be performed at Bond Park’s Sertoma Amphitheatre at 6:30 p.m.  Following the play at 7:30 p.m. , the Cary Town Band will entertain audiences with old time patriotic music.  On Tuesday, the celebration continues with a family style event at Bond Park from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. that includes fishing and eating competitions and dedicating the Park’s Lakefront renovations.

“Everyone is invited to join us for yet another joyous Fourth of July celebration,” said Marketing Specialist Leda Isenhour.  “These events are the perfect opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate our nation’s freedom.  We’re more excited than ever about this year’s festivities.”

For the first time ever, citizens can show off their freedom of expression in a “Parade in the Park” that will be held on July 4 in Bond Park.  Beginning at 9 a.m. , participants will decorate their own bikes, tricycles, strollers, wagons, scooters, or battery-powered children’s automobiles at the Kiwanis Shelter and then ride in the parade that begins at 10 a.m. ; prizes will be awarded for the most extraordinary displays.

To cap off the parade, riders and spectators will head to the new Bond Park Boathouse for the dedication of the Bond Park Lakefront Improvements Project at 10:30 a.m.   The ceremony will mark the completion of the Town’s $1.1 million renovation project that includes: a new Boathouse; larger concessions and restrooms; a paved greenway around the boathouse area, and a screened porch on a large deck.   Whereas the Boathouse had been closed since November 2005 for renovations, it will reopen after the ceremony for concessions and boat rentals during normal hours for June-August:  Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. ; Saturday and holidays, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. , and Sunday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. For more on the Boathouse project, visit Bond Park Lakefront Improvements at www.townofcary.org
