traffic to shift on high house road widening project

Work Continues on $9.3-million project

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary will split traffic on High House Road from N.C. 55 to Widdington Lane beginning Thursday, May 18 about 1 p.m. through mid-August 2006 as work continues on the $9.3-million High House Road widening project.  Westbound High House traffic will shift north into the new outer lane, and the eastbound traffic will continue in its current pattern.  The split is necessary for construction of the project’s median.

“The project is already 30 percent complete, and we are very optimistic about meeting the projected May 2007 full completion date,” said Tom Ellis, Senior Engineer.  “We will continue to keep citizens informed about remaining parts of the project and appreciate their patience as we work to improve travel in this area.”

Motorists can expect additional traffic shifts for the remainder of the project.  Also, a section of Carpenter-Upchurch Road will close to thru traffic in July to tie in Carpenter-Upchurch Road with a new bridge just west of its intersection with the new High House Road bridge; more details will follow in late June.

The Town began widening the .9-mile segment of High House Road from N.C. 55 to just east of Carpenter Upchurch Road in November 2005 as part of an effort to improve traffic flow in western Cary .  The project includes the widening of High House Road to a four-lane divided highway and includes the replacement of the two-lane bridge over the CSX Railroad tracks with a six-lane bridge.
