TOWN OF
CARY
PREPARES FOR WATER TANK REPLACEMENT
Water Tank to Provide an Additional 400,000 gallons of Storage Space
CARY
,
Water
tanks provide emergency water flow for fires, as well as additional water supply
during peak usage hours.
“We
are pleased to announce the start of this important project,” said Tim Bailey,
Cary Director of Engineering. “The
replacement project illustrates the Town’s commitment to making effective
investments today that will protect our citizens for years to come.”
All
citizens can benefit from the added protection of the larger tank.
The new tank will primarily serve the Central
Pressure Water Zone in Cary, but in case of an emergency in the two other
pressure zones, Town officials can direct water from the new tank to other parts
of Town with the click of a switch.
The
existing multi-leg style tank, which was erected in 1959, will be replaced by a spheroid-
style tank that will stand at 152 feet tall – the same as the old tank.
During construction, area residents can expect some noise impacts as
steel erectors construct the tank. The
contractor will install a shroud to prevent sandblasting dust and paint over
spray to surrounding areas.
The
Cary Town Council awarded CB&I the $2.9 million water tank replacement
project on
