POWERS NAMED TOWN OF CARY EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

CARY , NC – With eight years of experience and an outstanding commitment to service, Greg Powers has been named the Town of Cary ’s 2006 Employee of the Year.  Powers, 43, currently serves as Computer Systems Analyst in the Technology Services Department and was chosen from a field of 12 excellent nominees from the Town’s 1,090 employees.  He was honored with a plaque and a $1,000 savings bond.

The announcement was made today at the Town’s Annual Employee Recognition Luncheon at the Herb Young Community Center in Cary, during which dozens of staff were also recognized for reaching years of service milestones.

"We’re very proud of Greg’s accomplishments and his dedication to providing the Town with outstanding technical support that enables us to better serve our citizens,” said Town Manager Bill Coleman.  “Like so many of this year’s finalists, Greg exemplifies the type of exemplary employee we strive to attract and retain in the Town of Cary .”

In addition to assisting Town employees, Powers supports the technology needs of the Town Council and is described by colleagues as “one who knows how to collaborate and develop effective partnerships.”  In his spare time, Powers works with the Sunday school class at his church and spends time with his wife and two children.

The Town of Cary ’s Employee of the Year program was established in 1989 to recognize employees who consistently perform well beyond what the job description requires. Nominees are consistently courteous and helpful to others, and they strive to improve themselves and participate in the community.  Many nominations included accolades from Cary citizens.  For more about the program, see Employee of the Year at www.townofcary.org.
