TOWN OF CARY KEEPS THE MUSIC PLAYING IN FALL CONCERT SERIES

CARY , NC The Town of Cary is striking up the band for the second performance in the 2006 Fall Sertoma Series with the Cary Town Band at Sertoma Amphitheatre at the Fred G. Bond Metro Park , 801 High House Road on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 7:30 p.m.

The Cary Town Band, directed by Dr. James R. Hammerle, is reminiscent of the turn of the century bands led by Sousa, Goldman and others who popularized band concerts all over America . The band plays American and foreign marches, circus music, overtures and other "pops" classical music, polkas, and waltzes. Very little modern music is played other than works by Leroy Anderson.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy the music that has entertained listeners for generations,” said Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Bunch.  “Everyone is invited to come to Bond Park to enjoy the great outdoors while taking in delightful sounds.”

The Cary Town Band was formed in the fall of 1987 with 16 musicians. Today, it is comprised of more than 30 musicians from Cary , Raleigh , Apex, and surrounding areas, almost all of whom are professionals in some line of work other than music.

Each year, the Fall Sertoma Concert Series features the best in free, live, outdoor entertainment.  The Cary Town Band concert marks the second performance in the 2006 Series that began September 9 with “Brass at Bond”.  Guests are invited to return to Sertoma for the following remaining Fall Concert Series performances:  Christine Kane, Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. ; Grey Seal Puppets and Shadow Players, Sunday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. ; and Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
