FREE BRASS AT CARY’S BOND PARK THIS SATURDAY

Audience members invited to join in brass ensemble concert

CARY, NC –Bring your brass and help the Town of Cary blow out summer and blow in fall with nearly 100 brass instruments during the Fifth Annual “Brass at Bond” at Sertoma Amphitheatre at the Fred G. Bond Metro Park , 801 High House Road on Saturday, September 9 at noon For the first time ever, audience members can toot their own horns in a special mass performance that includes five brass ensembles – Triangle Tuba Ensemble, Triangle Brass Band, St. Francis Brass Band, Brass-on-the-Slide & Friends and Herding Cats Ten-tet.

Following the five separate performances, all of the ensembles will come together and invite audience members to join them in performing a Massed Brass Reading – an unrehearsed performance of a musical piece.  Interested audience members should bring their own brass instruments to participate in the encore.

“Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the bold and beautiful sounds of these talented musicians,” said Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Bunch.  The concert kicks off the 2006 Fall Sertoma Concert Series – Cary ’s annual music series that features the best in free, live, outdoor entertainment.

All of the featured ensembles consist of musicians from the Tarheel State .  The Triangle Tuba Band is a newly formed ensemble made up of community players who play the tuba or euphonium and live in the central region of North Carolina . Triangle Brass Band is a group of 35 brass and percussion players from the Research Triangle Park area who perform the finest original works for brass bands from the 19th century to the present.  Also, the St. Francis Brass Band entertains listeners each year at the Cary Towne Center Mall.

Another North Carolina-based ensemble, Brass-on-the-Slide & Friends comprises trombone players from across the Triangle who dazzle audiences with their repertoire of folk tunes, classical favorites, jazz, hymns, spirituals and more.  The Herding Cats Ten-tet – whose name comes from the difficulty of scheduling rehearsals for ten active musicians – will close out the show with their unique sounds.

Guest are invited to return to Sertoma for more great music during the following, remaining series performances:  Cary Town Band, Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m.; Christine Kane, Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m.; Grey Seal Puppets and Shadow Players, Sunday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m.; and Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
