  CARY TOWN HALL MOVE CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND

CARY, NC – The move into the new Town Hall continues this weekend as the Human Resources (HR) and Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) departments along with remaining Inspections and Permits staff move back into Town Hall at 316 N. Academy St. beginning today.  The departments will start doing business in their new location on Monday, December 19.  Human Resources will be located on the second floor of the east wing next to Administration, and PRCR and Inspections and Permits will be housed on the first floor of the north wing.

“The move has been going smoothly,” said Town Manager Bill Coleman.  “We are looking forward to having all of our Town’s services back in one convenient location.”

On Monday, December 12, 2005 , the Finance office, including utility billing and payments, and the Administration office began doing business in the new Town Hall, which had been closed for renovations since June 2004.  Prior to the reopening, the HR department had been temporarily located at 100 Charlie Gaddy Lane behind the Cary Public Library, and the PRCR department had been temporarily housed at 111 James Jackson Ave.

For now, temporary signs are located throughout the Town Hall campus to direct citizens to the appropriate department; soon the permanent signs will be installed, including near the parking deck off Wilkinson Avenue .  In addition, a map is available through the Town’s Web site at www.townofcary.org.

Citizens needing to access Town Hall offices, including the Finance department for utility billing and payments, may park in the free, designated visitor parking spaces on the circular drive off Ambassador Loop and enter the building from one of three entrances:

  • Enter from the Ambassador Loop entrance;

  • Enter from the courtyard;

  • Enter into the concourse from North Academy Street .

Since the construction created one L-shaped building by joining two existing buildings, the street address 318 N. Academy St. will no longer be used.  The entire building will be referred to as Cary Town Hall with an address of 316 N. Academy St .  All existing telephone numbers will remain the same.

The Town broke ground on the $33.4 million project on July 29, 2002 and began the first phase that included a new 486-space parking deck located at 121 Wilkinson Avenue , and construction of the 120 Wilkinson Avenue building, which now houses the Police and Technology Services departments.  This phase was completed in June 2004. The next phase, which was completed in December 2005, included the north wing of Town Hall that houses the engineering, inspections and permits, and planning departments.  The final phase of the expansion includes completion of the Town Council Chamber that is scheduled to open for the January 12, 2006 regular meeting.
