CARY TO MARK NATIONAL TRAILS DAY WITH REDEDICATION OF RENOVATED GREENWAY

CARY, NC – Citizens are invited to bring the significance of National Trails Day home this Saturday by participating in the rededication of a community greenway following a $189,000 renovation.  The Town of Cary will host a rededication ceremony complete with refreshments and a trail walk of the “new and improved” .7-mile Pirate’s Cove greenway on Saturday, June 4 starting at 2 p.m. at the trailhead on Greenwood Circle in downtown Cary.  Renovations completed this spring include paving and a new pedestrian bridge and spur trail at Kingston Ridge Road.

“The Pirate’s Cove Greenway renovation and expansion project is part of a continuing long-range effort to develop and maintain a system of interlinked off-road routes that give pedestrians and cyclists safe and easy access to parks, schools, shopping, and places of employment,” said Town of Cary Recreation Projects Coordinator Judy S. Newsome.

Currently, the Town of Cary has over 25 miles of trails and greenways on the ground with another 15 miles identified in its long-range plan.

A second phase of renovations to the Pirate’s Cove Greenway will be completed next spring and include the installation of an additional pedestrian bridge and spur trail linking Greenwood Circle and Vickie Drive.  The estimate cost of Phase II is $70,000.
