NEWS RELEASE
CARY’S AWARD-WINNING NATIONAL NIGHT OUT WILL BE CELEBRATED TOMORROW NIGHT
CARY, NC – Tomorrow night, folks in America’s ninth safest city will again have two options for the 22nd Annual “National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event. In addition to the tradition of having teams visit neighborhoods to discuss safety and build community spirit, the Town of Cary will again offer a mini safety festival from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., this year at the Senior Center in Bond Park. The festival will feature child ID’s and information from Cary EMS, the Cary Fire Department, the BAT Mobile, the City/County Bureau of Investigation, and other agencies. Food and drinks will be available.
A second mini festival will be held at the police service center at the Police Substation at 310 Cheswick Place in Briarcliff Apartments to reach out to this predominately Spanish-speaking neighborhood.
“These mini festivals help fill the gap created by our not being able to get out to every neighborhood in Cary in one evening,” said Community Services Officer Jann Champ.
In addition to the festivals, teams will visit area neighborhoods from 6:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. when residents throughout Cary will lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend part of the evening outside with neighbors and police. Two teams of police, fire, EMS, and dignitaries, including Cary Town Council members, will travel throughout town according to the following schedule:
Team 1
6:15 - 6:55 p.m. Wimbledon Clubhouse, 455 Coorsdale Drive
7:05 - 7:50 p.m. Urban Park
8:00 - 8:40 p.m. Pirate’s Cove Clubhouse on Blackshoals Drive
8:50 p.m. – until Police Substation, 310 Cheswick Place
Team 2
6:15 - 6:55 p.m. Silverton River Rock Swim Club, 1401 Evans Road
7:05 - 7:50 p.m. Palmetto Drive @ Pineland Drive (Savon Heights)
8:00 - 8:40 p.m. Hounslow Court cul-de-sac (Coventry Glen)
8:50 p.m. – until Police Substation, 310 Cheswick Place
NNO is designed to: 1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; 2) generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts; 3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and, 4) send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
"The close, positive relationship we enjoy with our community is one of the most important assets we have in fighting crime," said Interim Police Chief Pat Bazemore. "Participating in National Night Out is one of many ways we reach out to and stay in touch with the neighborhoods we serve."
NNO is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Town of Cary. For more information about National Night Out, please visit the NATW at www.natw.org. For more about the Town of Cary’s community policing efforts, please see www.townofcary.org.
