CARY POLICE CONFIRM IDENTITY OF MURDER VICTIM

CARY, NC – Cary Police have identified the man found dead on Thursday, October 20 behind the Cary convenience store as Miguel Ramirez Cifuentes, 50, whose last known address was 105 Waco St. in Cary .

“We are continuing to work around the clock to identify suspects in this tragic incident,” said Captain Dave Wulff.

No charges have been filed.

On October 20, 2005 , the Town of Cary Police Department was called to the Exxon station at 1205 NE Maynard Road by the owner of the store who reported seeing a man’s body lying in the woods adjacent to the property.  On Friday, autopsy results indicated that the cause of death was a blow to the head, and a composite drawing was released of a person of interest.  Police located and interviewed the person on Saturday, who is not being considered as a suspect.

    CARY POLICE INTERVIEW PERSON OF INTEREST IN MURDER CASE

CARY, NC – Cary Police have made contact with the person of interest whose composite was released on Friday, October 21 in relation to the man found dead on Thursday behind the Cary convenience store.  This person of interest has been interviewed and is cooperating with Police. 

“We appreciate the cooperation of our person of interest,” said Captain Dave Wulff.  “While he’s not being considered as a suspect, we are withholding his name as part of the investigation.”

The Police Department is continuing to work to identity the victim, notify next of kin and look for suspects.

MAN FOUND DEAD IN CARY WAS MURDERED

CARY, NC – An autopsy conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill, NC indicates that the man found dead yesterday behind a Cary convenience store was murdered.  The cause of death appears to be a blow to his head.

While police won’t identify the victim until his relatives are notified, they will say that the deceased man was Hispanic, 48-52 years old, about 5’4” tall and approximately 121 pounds.  He was wearing a multicolored vertically striped shirt, brown pants, and black shoes.  He appears to have been dead for several days.

“Our focus today is three-fold:  to confirm the victim’s identity, notify his family, and identify our suspect(s),” said Captain Dave Wulff.  “Every member of our team is committed to bringing swift and certain resolution to this terrible tragedy.”

Police would like to speak with a man who they think might have valuable information about the case.  This “person of interest” is described as a black male, 160-170 pounds, slender build, late 30s in age, medium to dark complexion with short hair and a slight overbite.  He might be riding a red or black bicycle in poor condition.

“I want to stress that the man we’re looking for is a person of interest, not a suspect,” said Wulff.  “We hope that he or anyone who thinks they know him will give us a call right away.”

MAN FOUND DEAD BEHIND CARY CONVENIENCE STORE

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of a man whose body was found in a wooded area behind the Exxon station at 1205 NE Maynard Road .  At this time, police are treating his death as a homicide.

Cary Police were called to the scene today at 12:31 p.m. by the owner of the store who reported seeing the man’s body lying in the woods.  They began the investigation, secured the scene and contacted CCBI to gather evidence.

“At this point, we believe that the man did not die from natural causes, so we’re treating it as a homicide as a matter of standard procedure,” said Captain Dave Wulff.

Police say that it’s too early to tell whether the man died where he was found or if he died elsewhere and his body was moved to the Caryocation.

The man has not yet been positively identified.  His body will be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill, NC for an autopsy.

 

Officials remain at the scene this evening.

This is the first potential homicide in Cary this year.  Cary ’s last homicide occurred on August 21, 2004.
