CARY ANNOUNCES NOMINEES FOR EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

CARY, NC – Fourteen Town of Cary staff have been nominated by their colleagues and citizens and Cary citizens to compete for the honor of Employee of the Year, part of the Town’s employee recognition program designed to retain and reward the best in local government.  The 14 outstanding individuals will be honored at a reception on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center on the Town Hall Campus.

This year’s nominees are:

  • Mitchell Anderson, Recycling Crew Leader, Public Works and Utilities (PWUT)
  • Bruce Crocker, Operations Analyst, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources
  • Ken Guttman, Internet Applications Specialist, Technology Services
  • Johny Hernandez, Facilities District Coordinator, PWUT
  • Steve Hillsgrove, Master Firefighter, Fire Department
  • Lana Hygh, Assistant to the Town Manager, Administration
  • Jason Ice, Master Police Officer, Police Department
  • Andy Johnson, Engineering Field Services Manager, Engineering
  • Malcolm Monk, Construction Worker III, PWUT
  • June Nemetz, Administrative Specialist, Planning
  • Cliff Norman, Facilities Maintenance Worker III, PWUT
  • Kay Starling, Administrative Secretary III, South Cary Water Reclamation Facility, PWUT
  • Laura Turk, Human Resources Assistant, Human Resources
  • Mark Tutor, Zoning Compliance Supervisor, Planning

“This is a diverse group of individuals who daily demonstrate an exemplary commitment to providing high-quality service,” said Town Manager Bill Coleman.  “Employees are the most important asset to Town government and our citizens, and we are dedicated to attracting and retaining the very best.”

Town of Cary employees make up nationally accredited Police, Fire, and Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources departments.

Before the reception, a committee of citizens and Town staff will select this year’s finalists and winner for the Employee of the Year award from the group of nominees.  This year’s winner will be named at a luncheon on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 and recognized with a plaque and a $1,000 savings bond.  

The Town of Cary ’s Employee of the Year program was established in 1989 to recognize employees who consistently perform well beyond what the job description requires. Nominees are consistently courteous and helpful to others, and they strive to improve themselves and participate in the community.  Many nominations included accolades from Cary citizens.  For more about the program, see Employee of the Year at www.townofcary.org.
