TOWN OF
CARY
OFFERS SCHOOL BUS SAFETY TIPS
- Children
should wait for the bus in a safe spot such as on the sidewalk; where there
is no sidewalk, children should stand on the shoulder several feet back from
the pavement.
- Never
stand in the roadway while waiting for the bus.
- Tell
children not to engage in horseplay, especially as the bus or other vehicles
are approaching.
- While
waiting for the bus, children should pay close attention to their
surroundings and be prepared to react to safety threats.
- When
the bus is approaching, children should wait until the bus comes to a
complete stop before entering and exiting the bus.
- Whenever
possible, it’s a good idea for an adult to wait with children at the bus
stop.
