SIMPSON TO STEP INTO CARY’S LEAD ATTORNEY ROLE

CARY, NC – The Cary Town Council will promote Assistant Town Attorney Christine B. Simpson to the position of Town Attorney effective January 1, 2005.  Simpson, 52, replaces Charles Henderson, 63, who is retiring at the end of this calendar year after over 26 years of service with the Town in the lead attorney role.  Simpson has been Cary’s Assistant Town Attorney for over 5 years; she also worked on various projects with the Town as a contract attorney while in private practice in Burlington, NC from 1985-1999.

“While we were fortunate to have many excellent candidates, it’s always nice when you find that the best one of all is in your own backyard,” said Cary Mayor Ernie McAlister.  “We’re confident that Chris’ knowledge, professionalism, and years of service with the organization will help ensure that good legal representation continues for the Town.”

As required by the North Carolina General Statutes, the Town Attorney is one of only three positions that answer directly to the Town Council, the others being Town Manager and Town Clerk.  The Town Attorney is the legal advisor for Town Council and staff; the Town Attorney does not provide legal services for any outside citizens, groups, or businesses.

“I appreciate the opportunity to work in this new capacity and look forward to continuing to serve the Cary Town Council and staff,” said Simpson.

Simpson holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Catholic University in Washington DC and a Jurist Doctorate from the Law School of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.  She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association as well as the Wake County Bar.
