CARY SHARES TOP HONORS FOR WATER PLANT EXPANSION
CARY, NC – Phase one of the Cary-Apex Water Treatment Plant expansion
project has won the prestigious Pinnacle Award for "Best Partnering
Project" from the Carolinas Associated General Contractors (AGC), which
each year highlights outstanding achievement in the commercial construction
industry. The partnering award recognized the teamwork and equity among the
three parties key to the construction project’s success: general contractor
Crowder Construction Company, headquartered in Charlotte, engineer Camp Dresser
& McKee of Raleigh, and the project owners, the towns of Cary and Apex, NC.
In this case, each worked in an outstanding team effort that resulted in the
project being accelerated by nine months and completed with no lost-time
injuries.
Phase one of the multiphase, multiyear, multimillion dollar project took the 16 million gallon a day plant to 24 million gallons a day. By the end of this spring, the next phase of construction will take the plant to a 40 million gallon a day capacity. The Cary/Apex Water Treatment Plant provides treated water to Cary, Apex, Morrisville, the Raleigh-Durham Airport, and the Wake County portion of Research Triangle Park.
Pinnacle winners were selected by a judging panel representing a cross-section of the Carolinas AGC membership, which includes general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and service companies. Judges have the option of giving no award in a given category if they feel it has no truly exceptional candidates that year.
As the largest AGC chapter in the nation with more than 3,400 member firms, Carolinas AGC’s mission is to build its members’ businesses through workforce development, business development, profit management, and CompTrust AGC–a self-insured workers’ compensation trust for members. More than 75 percent of commercial and industrial construction (buildings, highways/bridges, utility facilities) in both North and South Carolina is performed or supported by Carolinas AGC members.
The Cary Town Council will recognize its award-winning team at their regular meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers.
