TOWN OF CARY FINAL WINTER WEATHER UPDATE:
CARS ON STREETS = GARBAGE ON CURBS, SNOW ON STREETS

CARY, NC –Want the snow and garbage gone? You can help by encouraging your neighbors to move their vehicles off of the streets and into their driveways.

The Town of Cary has 15 crews out collecting curbside garbage for Thursday and Friday customers today, but their progress is being sorely hindered by the number of cars and trucks parked in the streets, making it nearly impossible to get garbage trucks into many neighborhoods.

The same is true of snow removal. Plows are being stymied by car-lined cul-de-sacs.

"We’re doing everything possible to get things back to normal," said Public Works Division Director Mike Bajorek, "but we’re really starting to hit the wall now because of parked cars." Bajorek said that crews are at the point now of having to decide to altogether skip areas where access is tight.

Because of the soggy ground and to speed collection as much as possible, Cary crews are only collecting garbage—no recycling--that has been brought to the curb. Elderly or disabled residents who cannot take their garbage to the curb should call 469-4090 to arrange for special assistance.

Christmas trees will be collected town-wide from the curb on Monday along with the regular yard waste collection.

Bajorek expects that solid waste and recycling schedules will return to normal on Tuesday.

The Michigan crews and Cary’s Snow A Team are continuing to clear subdivisions and cul-de-sacs.

The Snow A-Team will convert from plowing back to sanding and salting as the evening’s hard freeze begins after sundown. Crews continue to work rotating 12-hour shifts around the clock.

There have been 11 traffic accidents reported in Cary since midnight, none with serious injuries.

Please continue to call 911 only if there is an emergency posing an immediate threat to life, health, or property. For non-emergency snow information, visit www.townofcary.org.

This is the final snow update unless changing conditions warrant further action.
