Capital Area Preservation Spring 2002 Landmarks Tour
Cary: Still a Small Town at Heart

Showcasing a diverse collection of small-town architecture, Capital Area Preservation's Spring Landmarks Tour will celebrate the first anniversary of Cary's National Register Historic District. A range of buildings, from private residences to churches to schools, in a variety of styles from Gothic Revival to Queen Anne, will be open to the public as part of CAP's first entirely walkable tour.
This year's tour coincides with Cary's annual Spring Daze festival; tour participants are encouraged to take the Spring Daze shuttle from Cary Towne Center at 1105 Walnut St. in Cary. Additional transportation from the Spring Daze area to the tour area will be available. Tour ticket holders will also be entitled to special discounts at local merchants. Brown Bag Lunch

Free and open to the public.
Bring your lunch to the Page-Walker Arts & History Center and enjoy a new perspective on an old tradition. Experience "Art Quilts: "Encrustations," an exhibit of 57 embellished quilts from 21 U.S. states, two Canadian provinces and Belgium in the Page-Walker galleries on the 1st and 2nd floors. Work by 52 artists is represented, including 12 from North Carolina. Curator Amy Stewart Winsor will answer the questions "What's all that stuff on those quilts?" and "Is It art?"
Then take the self-guided tour of the Cary Heritage Museum on the 3rd floor of the Page-Walker and learn more about the history of Cary from the diorama of a railroad town, documentation about Cary's heritage families, and an oral history listening station. Downtown Cary Walking Tour

Fee: $5 per person; under age 15 free
Meet at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop in Cary and begin a walking tour with a visit to the Cary Heritage Museum. Discover how the town has grown over the last century and who influenced these changes. Learn about the houses and other buildings in that have their foundations in the past. Imagine the future.
