COMMUNITY INPUT SOUGHT ON NORTHWEST CARY AREA PLAN DRAFT
CARY, NC – The first draft of the Northwest Cary Area Plan has been completed, and the Town wants your feedback at a Community Open House on Monday, April 22 at the Bond Park Community Center located in Bond Park, 801 High House Road. The open house will last from 5 to 8 p.m. with special presentations given by Barbara Faga, project manager of EDAW, Inc., the Town’s consultant, at 5:30 and 7 p.m. to describe the draft recommendations. A question and answer period will follow each presentation. Citizen feedback from this meeting will be used by consultants and Town staff to help guide revisions to the plan prior to submitting it to the Cary Town Council for an official public hearing.
Participants can look at maps and exhibits illustrating the draft Northwest Cary Area Plan, including the plan’s long-range land use, transportation, and parks and open space recommendations. People can also look at maps depicting conditions within the study area, and speak with Town staff from the Planning, Engineering, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works & Utilities departments as well as consultants Barbara Faga and Jason Gregory. Attendees will be able to complete a comment form to register comments, suggestions, and concerns. Attendees will also learn about the project, the project schedule, the avenues for citizen involvement, and the steps in the plan development process.
The Northwest Cary Area Plan will be a master plan for the northwest Cary planning area, establishing the Town’s official long-range vision for future land uses, transportation, parks, open space, and the environment in that area. The Plan covers over 8,000 acres in Wake and Chatham Counties west of NC 55 within roughly 3 miles of RTP, plus Cary’s planning jurisdiction east of NC 55 and north of Morrisville-Carpenter Road, and the Historic Carpenter District.
The April 22nd Open House is the second for this project. The first open house, held on March 11th, focused on eliciting citizen concerns, vision, and preferences for the future of the Northwest Cary Area. Input from that open house was used to help guide development of the first draft of the Northwest Cary Area Plan, which is being presented at the second open house on April 22nd. This second open house is intended to be a forum for gathering feedback from Cary residents, property owners, and businesses about the first draft of the master plan for the Northwest Area. Citizen feedback from this meeting will be used by consultants and Town staff to revise the plan prior to submitting it to Cary Town Council for an official public hearing, tentatively planned for June. Everyone residing or owning property within the Northwest Cary Area Plan study area was invited by mail, but other Cary and area citizens are also encouraged to attend.
