Cary, NC (May 21, 2002)…This summer, the Amphitheatre at Regency Park will expand its entertainment offerings by bringing some of the country’s most exciting entertainers to Cary. Town officials today announced that the following performances have been added to the 2002 summer schedule:
- July 3 -- The Carolina Arts Festival Presents "Broadway Rocks for the Arts" featuring The Connells, and Broadway stars, Terrence Mann, Sebastian Bach, Lauren Kennedy, Anthony Rapp, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Alice Ripley.
- July 21 -- Pianist, Jim Brickman
- August 14 -- Celtic Festival, featuring The Saw Doctors, Ireland’s number one recording group.
- August 16 -- Country music legend, Willie Nelson
- August 18 -- The Irish Tenors
- August 30 -- The Indigo Girls
On June 4, the Town will also begin a 13-week-long Tuesday night movie series, called Movies By Moonlight featuring fun pre-movie events.
Town officials remarked that this is just the beginning. Other acts currently under negotiation are expected to be added to the 2002 schedule at the Amphitheatre as the season moves forward.
These events are in addition to the previously announced North Carolina Symphony Summerfest concert series that begins Saturday, June 1, and continues every Saturday through July 13. In addition, the Carolina Arts Festival will continue on July 4 with the town’s spectacular, free, Independence Day celebrations featuring the North Carolina Symphony.
Lyman Collins, the Town’s Cultural Resources Supervisor, said the addition of House of Blues as the venue’s primary booking agent has opened up a new world of entertainment possibilities for the Cary venue. "We are thrilled to have House of Blues as a partner at the facility," he said. "It makes perfect sense to utilize the HOB booking expertise as well as their talent-buying power."
Jim Mallonee, vice president, House of Blues Concerts Southeast, described the Amphitheatre as "an amazing facility and a great opportunity for both us and the music fans living in this beautiful part of the country."
