COMMUNITY INPUT SOUGHT ON WIDENING
OF POPULAR WESTERN WAKE ROADWAY
CARY, NC – In its continuing effort to work outside the box to improve citizens’ quality of life, the Town of Cary is planning to make significant improvements to another state road, and they’d like your input on the proposed design.
Citizens throughout the region are invited to a "floating" public information exchange being held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. tomorrow to discuss widening about 1.7 miles of Kildaire Farm Road, from 500 feet south of Autumngate Drive (near Mill Pond Village) to Palace Green (near Lochmere Golf Club and Williamsburg Commons) and the replacement of the existing Swift Creek bridge. At the open house, which is being held at Cary’s Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, participants will have the opportunity to view the corridor maps, provide feedback and suggestions for this project, and talk with Town staff.
"The widening of this section of Kildaire Farm Road is a critical part of our efforts to reduce travel time and relieve congestion for citizens living in and traveling through the southern portions of Cary," said the project’s director, Cary Engineer Russ Overton. "We’re looking forward to getting lots of feedback on our proposals at tomorrow’s information exchange."
Staff is proposing a 5-lane typical design without a median from 500 feet south of Autumngate Drive to Steep Bank Drive and a 4-lane median divided design from Steep Bank Drive to Palace Green. The price tag on this multiyear project is about $10.6 million, of which the North Carolina Department of Transportation will pay about $1 million to help with the widening of the bridge.
Following the public information exchange, Town Staff will review all comments and consider them in conjunction with NCDOT design requirements and other guidelines and information. The project is expected to move forward according to the tentative schedule below:
