JUNIOR STATE TENNIS TOURNAMENT COMES TO CARY
CARY, NC – Many of the best junior tennis players in the state will be in Cary this weekend to begin play in the North Carolina Closed Junior State Tournament. Over 460 junior North Carolina tennis players will compete in four age divisions of singles and doubles events. Play will begin on Saturday, July 20 and continue through Thursday, July 25. With the addition of the Cary Tennis Center, there are now 55 courts throughout the Town of Cary. During the first few days of the tournament, play will take place all day at all of the Town's courts, with play primarily at the Cary Tennis Center as the field narrows down.
"We are excited to show off our new facility, the Cary Tennis Center, to the entire state," said William Davis, Athletics Supervisor for the Town of Cary. "Cary is a great place to hold athletic tournaments because of the quality of the Town's facilities and the amenities like shopping, restaurants and hotels, throughout the area."
The Closed Junior State Tennis Tournament is an annual event that the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department won the bid for last fall. One of the main draws for this tournament is the Cary Tennis Center, a 30-court, full service facility. When fully operational, the facility will have amenities that include locker rooms with showers, meeting rooms, snack bar and a pro shop. The Town of Cary recently hired Cary Tennis Center, Inc. to set up and manage day-to-day operations at the Cary Tennis Center and manage programming for the Town's other public tennis courts. Cary Tennis Center Inc., is a subsidiary of the New York based company, NewYorkTennis.net. Tennis legend, Nick Bollettieri, will serve as both advisor and consultant to Cary Tennis Center, Inc. This tournament is just one example of the type of competition and tennis opportunities that Cary Tennis Center, Inc. and the Town plan to bring to Cary.
