This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, Team Up for Fire Safety, encourages children and families to recognize the role they play in keeping their homes fire-safe by focusing on three key actions: 1) installing and testing smoke alarms, 2) practicing home escape plans, and 3) hunting for home hazards. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 85% of all fires occur in the home, and most of the fires are preventable.

Fire Prevention Week activities will continue from Monday, October 7, 2002 through Friday, October 11, 2002 from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Classes for preschool and first graders will be held every morning from 9 a.m. - noon, firefighters will answer fire and safety questions from noon until 5 p.m., and puppet shows will be presented from 5 - 9 p.m. when the mall closes.

Fire Prevention Week activities that encourage the community to team up and spread the message that fire safety saves lives are part of Cary’s ongoing, comprehensive approach to fire and life safety education.

In case of rain, the outdoor event only will be cancelled.
