ANNUAL "COPS & LOBSTERS" BENEFITS SPECIAL OLYMPICS

CARY, NC – Today and tomorrow, April 2 and 3, Cary police officers will volunteer their time as "Celebrity Waiters" in the Red Lobster restaurant at 1805 Walnut Street from 4 – 8 p.m. Red Lobster restaurants throughout the United States and Canada take part in this fundraising event throughout North America. Donations, in the form of tips, benefit Special Olympics Programs and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

In North Carolina, over 26,400 Special Olympics athletes are dependent upon on all law enforcement agencies to have a successful Torch Run year so they can continue to train and compete at a high level. Special Olympics North Carolina, one of the largest amateur sports organizations in the state, provides year-round sports training and athletic competition opportunities for children and adults with mental retardation in nearly all 100 counties.

"Cops and Lobsters" generates tremendous community goodwill and public awareness for Special Olympics and Law Enforcement. The "Cops and Lobsters" program raises funds for Special Olympics, and is the only Law Enforcement Torch Run activity where law enforcement officers can join together during the same time period everywhere in the country to show their support of Special Olympics athletes.
