CARY TV ADDS PROGRAMMING THAT’S OUT OF THIS WORLD
CARY, NC – Beginning today, the Town of Cary’s government access channel adds a variety of satellite programming to supplement its current lineup of locally produced public affairs shows and government meetings. Major programming additions include regular feeds from NASA and Annenberg/CPB. The Triangle Radio Reading Service also returns to Cary TV with daily readings from The News & Observer and the weekly The Cary News.
"The addition of satellite programming is an important next step in the growth of this service to Cary citizens," said Susan Moran, Cary’s Public Information Officer. "While we will continue our focus on local government activities and issues, we can offer information on federal and state issues affecting our citizens by utilizing the spare capacity still available on our government access channel."
NASA Television provides real-time coverage of agency activities and missions as well as providing resource video to the news media and educational programming to teachers, students and the general public. In addition to NTV video files, Cary TV will carry live broadcasts of all shuttle missions.
Annenberg/CPB--a partnership between the Annenberg Foundation and the Corporation for
Public Broadcasting--funds educational series and professional development workshops for the Annenberg/CPB Channel. The Town of Cary will choose programs from the Annenberg lineup that are tied to the Town’s mission, goals, statement of values, and its service and operations areas, including:
- The Constitution: That Delicate Balance probes understanding, beliefs, and biases about constitutional issues
- Growing Old in a New Age a realistic and positive picture of older adults that challenges the common misconceptions and fears that surround the aging process
- A Biography of America explores the human side of American history using a biographical approach to examine the forces that have shaped our nation
- Race to Save the Planet offers a comprehensive, global overview of major environmental issues including population growth, soil erosion, and long-term climatic changes
- Art of the Western World explores some of the Western world's most impressive paintings, sculptures, and works of architecture, from ancient Greece to contemporary New York
Local meeting coverage on Cary TV continues to include those of the Cary Town Council, its Planning & Development and Operations Committees, and the Planning & Zoning Board as well as regular meetings of the Wake County Board of Commissioners and the Wake County Board of Education. The government access channel also carries the Town of Cary’s monthly newsmagazine, BUD-TV, as well as Wake County’s Real Life.
Cary TV was established in June 1998 to increase citizen access to important government information. It operates 24/7 from Cary Town Hall on Time Warner Cable channel 11 serving Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Fuquay-Varina, and part of Holly Springs. Daily program listings are available on the Town’s Web site,
www.townofcary.org, and weekly listings run on page A-5 of The Cary News.###
