BOOZE IT & LOSE IT
SUMMER SEASON UNDERWAY AGAIN
CARY, NC – Expect to see a lot more police, especially at night, when you
travel roads through Cary as the Cary Police Department joins other local law
enforcement agencies to implement this summer’s BOOZE IT & LOSE IT driving
safety program. Now through July 1, Cary Police will be conducting DWI
checkpoints and increasing patrols for drug and alcohol related traffic
violations in cooperation with the Wake County DWI task force and the Governor's
Highway Safety Program (GHSP).
"Our goal is to help reduce drug and alcohol related traffic deaths and injuries," said Cary Police Sergeant Allan Murray. "We have been active in this project over the years and feel that continuing our efforts will continue to keep our numbers lower than the national average."
Nationwide, 42% of all roadway fatalities are alcohol related. Fortunately, education, enforcement, and responsible drivers have kept North Carolina’s numbers to nearly half of that--24% of highway deaths being related to impaired driving in 2001. That’s down significantly form 2000 when the state was at 30%. In Cary, there were no alcohol related traffic fatalities in 2000 or 2001.
"Working together, our state's efforts to reduce these numbers have paid off," said Murray.
