"AMERICA: FROM THE HEART" TO BE SHOWN IN CARY

CARY, NC – An exhibit of quilts depicting the emotions of quilt artists after the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks will be shown at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, the Herbert C. Young Community Center and other locations in Cary, NC, January 27 through March 16, 2002. Originally shown at the International Quilt Market and International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, the quilts in the original "America: From the Heart" exhibit were made in the six weeks between the terrorist attacks and the early November quilting events. An estimated 50,000 people viewed the quilts in Houston, and now an exhibit of approximately 100 of these quilts will be sponsored by the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department.

The Page-Walker Arts & History Center has arranged with curator Karey Bresenhan, the director of the International Quilt Festival, to show selected quilts from "America: From the Heart" special exhibit. The quilts depict the emotions and responses of quilt artists to the horror and grief of that sad event, plus many images of hope and optimism for the future of our country.

The Page-Walker Arts & History Center will be the first venue for this new travelling exhibit, and Amy Stewart Winsor is the local coordinator. The opening reception will be held on Sunday, January 27, from 2-5 p.m.

The Page-Walker Arts & History Center is located in downtown Cary at 119 Ambassador Loop. There is no entrance fee to the exhibit. Usual public hours for the Page-Walker are Monday-Wednesday 10 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Fridays 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Please call before visiting to confirm viewing availability, as the gallery doubles as a meeting space.
