CARY FIRE STATIONS TO HOST 9/11 REMEMBRANCES
CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Fire Department invites citizens to join in quiet remembrances of the tragedies of September 11th at any Cary fire station on Wednesday at 10 a.m. for a 30 minute ceremony around the flagpole followed by community receptions and tours of the stations. Each ceremony will include a moment of silence around the flagpole, lowering the flag to half staff, and remarks by the fire chaplain. While identical observances will be held at each of Cary’s six fire stations, Station 4 is considered to be the lead site given its central location within Town--1401 Old Apex Road. In case of rain, all events will be moved indoors.
"We felt it was important to provide an opportunity for folks locally to join together and reflect on the events of September 11 and the effect that day has had on their lives," said Town of Cary Fire Chief Wayne House.
Other fire stations throughout town include:
- Station 1, 1501 N Harrison Ave.
- Station 2, 875 SE Maynard Rd.
- Station 3,1807 Kildaire Farm Rd.
- Station 5, 2101 High House Rd.
- Station 6, 3609 Ten-Ten Rd.
In addition to the fire station ceremonies, the Town of Cary encourages all Cary citizens to place an artificial low voltage window light in their homes the evening of September 11 to honor victims of the attacks and to celebrate the countless acts of courage, compassion and loyalty that followed. The Town Council issued a Day of Remembrance proclamation at the request of Eileen Herbst of Cary, whose brother-in-law--a battalion chief with the Fire Department of New York--lost his life in the World Trade Center attacks.
