WALNUT STREET CLOSED FOR EMERGENCY REPAIRS
CARY, NC – Cary -- Walnut Street is closed from Walker St. to Byrum St. in downtown Cary for emergency sewer line repairs. The sewer line is expected to be repaired and the street open in time for tomorrow’s morning commute.
The Town’s Public Works and Utilities department received a call on Tuesday morning reporting a pothole on Walnut Street. When Town crews investigated, it became apparent that the problem was underneath the street. When they used video to check out the sewer line underneath the road, they discovered that it had collapsed. Town crews then immediately began working to replace the affected section of pipe.
"We are fortunate that one of our citizens took the initiative to report this problem," said Mike Bajorek, Public Works Director. "Pipe failure of this type is very unusual, and we are glad to have a chance to correct it before it became worse."
Motorists should use caution in the area and follow the marked detours.
