BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS VOLUNTEERS HONORED

CARY, NC – The Cary Town Council will hold a reception in honor of its appointed volunteers who have served throughout the past year from 4:30 – 6:00 PM on April 26, 2001 at the Page Walker Arts & History Center. The week of April 23 – 28, 2001 has been proclaimed "National Volunteer Week" in North Carolina by Governor Easley; the volunteer reception was scheduled in harmony with this proclamation.

"Members of these advisory Boards and Commissions are a vital link between the community and the Town Council," said Mayor Glen Lang. "They are dedicated to making Cary a better place to live, and spend an incredible amount of time in this effort."

Each year, the Town Clerk begins recruiting in September to fill upcoming vacancies. There are 80 seats on the standing boards and commissions, most for three year terms. In addition to Cary’s standing Boards and Commissions, special groups have been appointed for specific purposes including the Transportation Task Force for Senior Citizens and Citizens with Disabilities, Transportation Plan Advisory Committee, Public Art Master Plan Steering Committee, UDO Update Committee, Fiber Optic Overlay Advisory Committee, the Growth Management Advisory Committee, and the Town Center Area Plan Citizen Advisory Committee.
