CARY MOVES FORWARD ON SE MAYNARD IMPROVEMENTS
CARY, NC – Construction to widen Cary’s Southeast Maynard Road from Kildaire Farm Road east to Seabrook Avenue will begin on July 30th. Maynard Road, which provides a loop around downtown Cary, is a major roadway with over 20,000 vehicles traveling on the Southeast section each day. The $3.4 million project should be completed in 12-15 months and includes widening the existing three-lane road to five lanes with sidewalks on both sides.
"Completion of this project will help improve traffic flow and ease congestion, especially at Kildaire Farm Road," said Town of Cary Engineer and project director Tom Ellis. "Since this section of Maynard Road is close to the center of Town, we expect Cary citizens to be the primary beneficiaries of this project."
Maynard Road loop has been identified as a major roadway on the Town's Thoroughfare Plan since 1967. This Southeast section is one of the last sections of Maynard Road left to be widened. By 2004, Maynard Road will have two lanes of traffic in each direction for the entire loop. This will occur once Maynard Road from Kildaire Farm Road west to West Chatham Street and a section north of High House Road is widened.
Responding to citizen concerns over traffic, the Cary Town Council has appropriated $41 million over the past two years for projects designed to improve transportation in Cary. Over the next decade, Cary has identified an additional $574 million in potential transportation projects.
