PONY NATIONAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
COMES TO CARY AND RALEIGH

 

CARY, NC – The PONY East Zone National Fast Pitch Softball Tournament will be held in the Cary/Raleigh area August 5-11. Over 150 girls softball teams from 19 states will be participating in this tournament. This is the first of a three-year commitment to hosting the event, which is being coordinated by Raleigh Parks & Recreation, Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources, and the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau. The weeklong tournament begins with pool play Monday through Wednesday at locations throughout Cary and Raleigh. Double elimination rounds will begin on Thursday with championship games held on Friday, August 10 and Saturday, August 11, at Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

In Cary, games will be played Monday through Thursday at Bond Park, Ritter Park, Cary High School, and Green Hope High School. Davis Drive Middle School ball fields will be used for team practice. Games will also be played at Raleigh area softball fields including Walnut Creek Softball Complex, Laurel Hills and Lions Park. Spectators are invited to attend any games during the tournament. Daily game passes may be purchased at any venue for $10; twilight passes are sold for $5 beginning at 3:30 PM. Media Note: Media are invited to the special player entertainment at Bond Park on Sunday, August 5 from 6:00 to 8:30pm. Entertainment includes a base running contest at 6:00 and a "King of Diamonds" exhibition game at 7:15. Media are also invited to Opening Ceremonies at Alltel Pavilion on Monday, August 6 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Opening Ceremonies includes a player dinner at 6:30, team recognition at 7:30, entertainment at 8:30 (provided by a local band, Joe’s Bad Day) and concludes with fireworks at 9:00.
