RECALLED LIGHT FIXTURES CAUSE PROBLEMS IN CARY;  FIRE DEPARTMENT URGES HOME CHECK

CARY, NC – The Cary Fire Department is urging citizens to play it safe and check their indoor lights, as fixtures recalled last year by the Consumer Products Safety Commission are continuing to cause dangerous situations locally. In at least three separate incidents in Cary, the most recent occurring in June, the recalled four-bulb, flush-mount ceiling fixtures appear to short-circuit, posing a fire hazard. The eight-sided, glass and brass enclosure fixture is labeled "Made in China" along with "E181045". Wal-Mart and Lowe's stores nationwide sold the fixtures from January 1998 through January 2000.

Anyone finding these recalled fixtures in their home or at work should immediately stop using them and contact the manufacturer, TSI Prime, toll free at (877) 317-9237 between 8:00AM and 5:00PM Monday through Friday. TSI Prime will replace the faulty fixtures free of charge.

For additional information visit the Consumer Products Safety Commission's website at www.cpsc.gov, or contact the Cary Fire Department at 469-4056.

The CPSC announced a voluntary recall of 126,000 of the ceiling-mounted light fixtures on February 16, 2000.
