LOCAL CRIME STOPPERS EFFORT CROSSES STATE LINES; LEADS TO ARREST, REWARD
CARY, NC –Cary Crime Stoppers paid out a reward on June 27, 2001 to an anonymous caller whose tip led to the apprehension of a suspect wanted in Myrtle Beach, SC, on charges of Assault and Battery with Intent to Kill. Cary Police apprehended Daniel Brooks Yee without incident on May 15, 2001 after receiving a call through Crime Stoppers.
"This is a good example of how citizens can work with the Police and together make our community a safer place to live and work," said W. J. Hunter, Police Chief. "Because of this anonymous tip, a dangerous criminal is no longer at large on our streets."
In the last two years, Cary Police have resolved over 50 cases because of tips received through Crime Stoppers. Individuals whose tips lead to arrest and indictment receive monetary awards of up to $2,500 depending on the severity of the crime, its jurisdiction, and the effort extended in making the tip.
Crime Stoppers of Cary, Inc., a non-profit organization, involves the community, the media, and law enforcement in the fight against crime. Crime Stoppers works with the Cary Police Department but is not part of it or of the Town government. All calls to Crime Stoppers are kept in complete confidence. When a call is received, it is logged with the date and time along with a brief summary of the caller’s information. Callers are given a confidential code number that is used for identification in subsequent transactions. At the time of the initial phone call, the caller is given instructions on when to call back to check on the case. When the caller does call back, if the information they provided resulted in an arrest and indictment, the caller will be given information on how to collect the reward and still remain anonymous.
To report information about any crime, call 226-CRIM(E) or 226-2746.
