CARY POLICE CRACK COUNTERFEIT CHECK RING

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Police Department has caught a counterfeit team that may have hurt merchants all over the Triangle. Clarence Robinson, 29, of Durham and Henry Ce Mario Dobbins, 27, of Atlanta were arrested in their rented vehicle on Friday in front of SteinMart after Cary Police responded to a call about subjects passing counterfeit checks at stores at Crossroads Plaza.

The two had illegally taken more than $1,000 in merchandise from Cary stores including Borders, SteinMart, Linens & Things, and Omega Sports. Hundreds of dollars worth of the merchandise was recovered from the vehicle along with some of the counterfeit checks. Several fraudulent identifications were also found in the vehicle. A subsequent search of a motel room near the airport located the computer that the checks were made on along with the check paper. Receipts from stores in Raleigh and Durham where the suspects had been in the proceeding days was also located in the vehicle and may be used as evidence by the other jurisdictions.

Robinson, who has been released on $10,000 bond, was charged with two counts of forgery and two counts of false pretense while Dobbins, who remains in custody under a $25,000 bond, was charged with four counts of forgery and four counts of false pretense.
