Cary Youth Video Project

Teens, in this special lab project, will write and produce their own video. Project Instructor Kenny Dalsheimer, a former social studies and language arts teacher, now produces and directs documentary films and collaborates with artists and community groups on a variety of video projects. Dalsheimer's "Go Fast, Turn Left: Voices from Orange County Speedway" was shown on PBS's Visions series. A second major work, "Shine On: Richard Trice and the Bull City Blues," documents the link between Trice and the blues heyday in Durham, NC in the 1930's. The lab is co-produced with the Chapel Hill-based Empowerment Project, recipients of the 1993 Academy Award for Best Documentary Film for "The Panama Deception." Participants in the Cary Youth Video Project will learn every step of the filmmaking process, producing a video on a topic of the group's choosing. The lab will be at the Page-Walker Center, but will include frequent off-site trips to shoot the video and visits to the Empowerment project for editing. The class will conclude with a gala "Opening Night" premiere at the Page-Walker. Enrollment is limited. This class is for teens ages 13 - 18.
