TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS SKYROCKET TONIGHT ON CARY’S MAJOR ROADS; DRIVERS ADVISED TO USE CAUTION

CARY, NC – With more than two dozen accidents since 4:00 PM today, Cary Police are strongly advising motorists to use extreme caution overnight and into the morning. Most of the accidents have occurred on Cary’s major roadways—Cary Parkway, High House Road, and Maynard Road. These thoroughfares have several hills that are contributing to ice buildups and drivers losing control. Twenty-two accidents have been "fender benders" while three have resulted in personal injury.

Cary’s Public Works crews are dumping sand and salt nonstop in these areas, but the high traffic volumes as well as the high speeds are making the treatment ineffective.

For the next several days—as long as there is ice and roadside windrows remaining—drivers should avoid driving after dark and before sunrise while temperatures are low, visibility is low, and chances of frozen roadways is high.
