PRINCEVILLE TOWN HALL MOVING DOWN THE ROAD

PRINCEVILLE, NC – Princeville Town Hall will be moving back to Princeville on Saturday, April 8 and be open for business as usual on Monday morning. The mobile units that house the town hall offices will be moved to 310 Mutual Boulevard which is right behind the old Princeville Town Hall. Officials are excited at the prospect of being back in their own community after a several month hiatus in nearby Tarboro.

"We believe this move will uplift the spirits of our townspeople, letting them and the rest of the nation know that we are fully committed to rebuilding our community," said Mayor Delia Perkins.

Princeville has been working to rebuild its community since it was flooded during Hurricane Floyd in September 1999. So far, 157 families have returned to the town, and repairs and upgrades to the dike are nearing completion. Two brand new houses, the first of 13 being planned, have been built with assistance of the Princeville/East Tarboro Community Development Association and the NC State Baptist Convention in an effort to transition citizens from rentals to owners. A full recovery plan which is being prepared by Partners in Community, a non-profit planning and recovery group, is scheduled to be complete by May 21, 2000.
