PRINCEVILLE CENSUS PROCEDURES
PRINCEVILLE, NC To make sure that the population of the Town of Princeville is accurately counted in the 2000 Census, Town officials are requesting citizens to follow the following procedures which has been provided by the US Census Bureau.
For flood victims who lived in Princeville and who plan to return there to live:
- If there are homes still standing, although not occupied, it is possible that a Census Questionnaire has been left on the door. Flood victims should check their former homes for the questionnaire. They will also need to complete a "Be Counted Form", which will be available later in the month at most Post Offices. In the field that asks for information concerning the "Usual place of residence," families from Princeville who plan to return to Princeville to live should provide the address they had while living in Princeville.
- Families who are displaced and living in FEMA trailer parks will have a face to face interview with a enumerator. Again, if they plan to return to Princeville to live, they will need to indicate that their usual place of residence is the address where they lived before the flooding.
- Families who have been displaced who are living in the homes of friends or relatives are not to be included on the census questionnaire with the family they are living with. These families will need to pick up a "Be counted" form from the post office near the end of the month. If they plan to return to Princeville to live, they will need to list their previous Princeville address as their "usual place of residence."
An accurate count is critical to the Towns long-range planning efforts as well as getting the appropriate amount of state and federal revenues that help us provide critical services.
