CARY INCREASES
COMPREHENSIVE FOCUS ON WATER
WITH ADDITION OF NEW STAFF MEMBER
CARY, NC The Town of Cary has filled a new staff position to help increase its comprehensive focus on water supply and demand management, from reuse and conservation to developing and implementing a long range water resources plan. Leila Rhue Goodwin will leave consulting group CH2M HILL after 15 years to serve as Carys new Water Resources Manager. The position, which was approved by the Cary Town Council in January, will plan, develop, and oversee the implementation of the new water resources management strategies adopted by Council on May 11th.
"As the state continues to become more and more urban, the amount of available water supply will diminish. This new position will help us increase our focus on predicting what our future water needs will be and on finding the best ways to meet those needs for years to come," said Town Manager Bill Coleman.
Maryland native Goodwin, 38, comes to Cary from Charlotte where she handled water resources engineering consulting for municipal and private clients for CH2M HILL. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida, and she holds memberships in the American Public Works Association (currently President of the NC Water Resources Division), the American Water Works Association, Water Environment Federation, American Water Resources Association, and Society of Women Engineers.
"Im looking forward to this great opportunity--and responsibility--to implement some of the water resources planning and management practices I have recommended to clients in the past," said Goodwin. "I hope to successfully apply my experience around North Carolina and the Southeast to help Cary meet long term goals for water resources use, protection, and enhancement."
Goodwin begins her work in Cary on May 22.
