HURRICANE-DELAYED FILM TO BE SHOWN AT PAGE-WALKER

CARY, NC –"Go Fast, Turn Left: Voices from Orange County Speedway" will be shown on Thursday, May 18, 2000 at 7:00 PM at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop. This 48-minute documentary was originally scheduled for September 1999 but was postponed due to Hurricane Floyd.

Stock car racing is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and most people see or hear the racing acronym "NASCAR" frequently. Kenny Dalsheimer"s documentary, "Go Fast, Turn Left: Voices From Orange County Speedway," opens a window to the world of stock car racing in North Carolina and presents an intimate portrait of the personalities and families who come together for competitions in the minor leagues of the sport. "Go Fast, Turn Left" reveals much about a sport born and bred in the south and introduces the challenges, traditions, and values underlying Saturday night races at one of the fastest 3/8ths mile tracks in the south. Following the screening, Dalsheimer invites the audience to ask questions and participate in brief discussion about the film. "Go Fast, Turn Left: Voices From Orange County Speedway" was selected to be shown as part of the UNC Center for Public Television's fifth season of North Carolina Visions.

Kenny Dalsheimer--videographer, producer, and educator--is the owner of The Groove Productions in Durham, NC. A former middle school teacher of social studies and language arts, Mr. Dalsheimer produces and directs documentary films and collaborates with artists and community groups on a variety of video projects. He also co-directed a film about the life of Richard Trice, a former blues musician born in rural Orange County. Mr. Dalsheimer is a graduate of Connecticut College (B.A. Anthropology) and Duke University (M.A. anthropology).

This presentation is made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council.
