CARY’S PLAN TO WIDEN DAVIS DRIVE

The Cary Town Council on April 27th approved the Davis Drive widening to four lanes with a total maximum corridor width of 100’ north of High House Road. This plan includes a 16’ median as well as a standard sidewalk (5’) on one side of the thoroughfare as well as a special sidewalk-with-adjoining-bike-path (10’) on the other side.

Town Council members as well as staff continue to meet with numerous citizens to explore ways of further reducing the thoroughfare’s impact on property owners such as: retaining walls, plantings and barriers, and slight shifts in the sidewalks to preserve trees or important structures.

A second public workshop about Davis Drive is set for today from 4:00 until 6:30 PM at the Cary’s Page Walker Arts & History Center at which we are encouraging folks to attend to share more good ideas, always keeping in mind that the road is not a residential street but, rather, a major thoroughfare and as such must be built according to State guidelines.
