CARY POLICE CLEAR 10 BURGLARY CASES

CARY, NC – Cary Police arrested three suspects early this morning after a police officer observed one of the group smash a window of the Kerr Drug store at Preston Corners. Police expect these arrests to clear at least 10 similar outstanding cases since April 10. Raleigh and Durham Police have also dealt with similar cases this year.

The incident began at approximately 4:20 AM when Sgt. Kevin Tingen observed a Honda Accord drive into the Preston Corners parking lot and stop near the front door of the Kerr Drug store. An individual then got out of the vehicle and smashed the window of the pharmacy with a cinder block. Sgt. Tingen called for additional police support, and the suspect vehicle was pursued to Interstate 40 and Highway 55. Officer Brian Smith deployed "stop sticks" on Interstate 40 and successfully stopped the fleeing vehicle. One male suspect was arrested while trying to flee on foot. Remaining in the vehicle were two females and they too were arrested.

Recovered from the vehicle were approximately 25 cartons of cigarettes. No weapons or illegal drugs were uncovered.

The suspects have been identified as Cheryl Freeman, 34, James Christopher Riley, 31, and Lecian DeBerry, 39.
