"BUILDING A BETTER CARY" ADDED TO WEB

CARY, NC – It just got a little easier for citizens to track the Town of Cary’s progress in improving their quality of life with the launch of a new website section, "Building A Better Cary". Now, citizens can quickly browse a thumbnail sketch and photo of major construction projects underway in town, including new parks, greenways, and recreation facilities as well as street and sidewalk improvements, water system upgrades, and new fire stations. With a click of the mouse, surfers can also access details about each project such as cost, timelines, and an email link to the Town staff member heading up the project. Finally, each project has an electronic photo album showing its current status. "Building A Better Cary" will be updated monthly and is accessible directly from the Town’s splash page, www.townofcary.org.

Many of the items currently on the site come from Cary’s 1998 bond referendum in which voters approved bond financing for $139 million of Town construction projects.

"Citizens overwhelmingly approved the bonds, and we want to make it easy for them to see their government’s progress," said Cary Public Information Officer Susan Moran. Moran noted that the site is designed to highlight major projects of general interest and not to be seen as a complete list of the Town’s capital projects. That complete list of construction projects—Cary’s Capital Improvement Budget—is also available to citizens on the web.

Cary officials do caution that the new photo album files are large, so download times may be longer than usual for those items.
