CARY’S Y2K SUMMIT SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW AFTERNOON

CARY, NC – More than a dozen area agencies and business providing critical services to the area will attend the Town of Cary’s Y2K Summit—Cary’s first community meeting to ensure compliance and preparedness for Year 2000 issues to be held Tuesday afternoon, March 23rd, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Cary Community Center. Participants in the Y2K Summit will make sort reports on the status of their organization’s Y2K compliance specifically with regards to services in or for Cary. They will also provide hard copy information on as well as website links to their organization’s Y2K information so that the Town can compile a document for the public. Interested citizens will also have time at the end of the meeting to ask questions.

"While the Town of Cary is on schedule with our Y2K readiness plans, the Town has an interest in facilitating a community-wide effort to ensure uninterrupted service to citizens," said Town Manager Bill Coleman.

The Town organized the roundtable meeting in response to citizen concerns over possible negative effects of Year 2000. The Summit will assess the status of each participating group’s progress towards Y2K compliance with regards to their critical services, including contingency plans in the event of system failure. In addition to sharing information, Tuesday’s meeting will serve to facilitate the timely resolution of any Y2K problems before they happen.

The Y2K Summit will be videotaped for playback on Cary’s government access channel on March 30th at 7:30 am, March 31st at 7:30 pm and April 1st at 3:00 pm and again on April 30th at 7:30 am, May 1st at 7:30 pm and May 2nd at 3:00 pm.
