CARY TO BEGIN DOWNTOWN UTILITIES RELOCATION PROJECT

CARY, NC -- The Town of Cary is working with Carolina Power & Light to replace overhead cables and poles with underground service in downtown Cary along South Academy Street from Chatham Street to Dry Avenue. The work will begin this week and likely continue through August 1,1998. During this time, driving in the area as well as parking along the west side of South Academy Street will be affected. Citizens should use caution and expect some delays.

"This project will provide a higher level of uninterrupted service as well as enhance the appearance of the downtown area," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. The project was approved by Council last year.

Specifically, the work will consist of digging a trench alongside South Academy Street and relocating the electric, cable television, and telephone lines to that trench. After the lines have been relocated, all of the wooden streetlight poles will be removed. Metal poles will then be installed along South Academy Street.

Citizens who need to report outages or concerns during construction should call the company which provides the particular service experiencing the problem:

Electric: CP&L 508-5400
Telephone: BellSouth 611 (residential service) or 780-2222 (business service)
Cable: Time Warner 467-2800
