REDEDICATION CEREMONY TO BE HELD FOR LAZY DAZE PLAYGROUND

CARY, NC -- Following a 3.5 month, $76,000 facelift, the Town of Cary’s Lazy Daze Playground at Bond Park will be rededicated at 9:00 AM on Tuesday July 14th. The program, which will take place at the playground, will consist of an explanation of the improvements by Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Director Mary Barry, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Cary Town Council, PRCR Advisory Board, and the Lazy Daze Committee. Part of the Bond Park master plan, the playground was first opened in 1985, funded in part with proceeds from the annual Lazy Daze Festival.

"The Lazy Daze Playground was renovated because most of the original wooden equipment was badly worn, and sand surfacing was not handicap-accessible," said Alice Webb, PRCR Planner. "New engineered wood fiber surface is accessible to wheelchairs and is very resilient for falls."

The Town has increased the number and variety of play equipment and areas, and there is now a clearer separation between the pre-school-age areas and school-age areas. Additionally, the equipment is more fun and challenging than before, and the playground is more visually attractive to both children and adults.

This is not the first time the Town has undertaken this sort of project. Other playgrounds renovated in the past 10 years include those at Urban Park and Godbold Park. And in the near future, Cary plans to upgrade playground at Dunham Park (mid 1999), MacDonald Woods Park (late 1999), Annie Jones Park (FY 2000), and Lexie Lane Park (FY2001).
