CARY LAUNCHES KIDS 911 PROGRAM

CARY, NC -- The Town of Cary has launched a new program to help children be better prepared to deal with emergencies. KIDS 911 is designed to educate children about 911--what it is, how to call, when to call, and what to expect when they do call. The program, which lasts about 45 minutes, features real Cary Telecommunicators visiting children’s day cares, preschools, and other youth-based organizations.

"Our goal in providing this service is to help children learn the realities of 911 and to overcome any fears they may have about using the service," said Cary PD Community Services Officer Tracey Barker.

Kids 911 is a supplement to Cary PD’s existing 911 education program for adults which offers related information on an adult level to clubs and civic organizations. Groups interested in participating in KIDS 911 should call the Cary Police Department at 469-4012.
