HELP SOUGHT IN

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING CASE

CARY, NC -- A reward of up to $2500 is being offered for help in solving a case of attempted kidnapping which happened yesterday in Cary.

On May 6, 1998, at about 3:20 PM, a 12 year old girl was walking from East Cary Junior High School on SE Maynard Road to Henry Adams Elementary School on Cary Towne Boulevard, a few blocks away. When she got to 908 SE Maynard, the girl was approached by a man in a black car who, in Spanish, told her to come to him and get in the car. She ran, and he pursued her on foot, coming as close as three feet from her at one point. He continued to speak to her in Spanish as she ran. The man turned around once they neared the school.

The suspect is Hispanic, in his late 30’s-early 40’s, 6’ tall, 220 lbs., muscular build, shoulder-length wavy black hair, and last seen wearing a white tank-top, dark blue or black pants, and no shoes. He has three, parallel scars on his right arm. He was driving an older model, black, two-door car--possibly a Mercedes--which appeared to have had some damage.

"We’re hoping that people in the area of this crime can help us find the suspect very quickly, said Lt. Chris Hoina of the Cary Police Department. A composite of the suspect will be available this afternoon.

Cary Crimestoppers, in cooperation with the Town of Cary, will pay up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification and apprehension of the individual responsible for this crime. Anyone with information may contact Crimestoppers at 460-INFO (460-4636) or Cary PD Juvenile Investigations at 460-4917. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
