CARY TO BREAK GROUND ON
SECOND COMMUNITY CENTER

CARY, NC -- Town officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for Cary’s second community center tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM. This $3.8 million facility will sit on eight acres of land in Cary’s Bond Park, which at 283 total acres is the largest municipal park in Wake County. The 28,975 square foot Bond Park Community Center will boast two gymnasiums and 3 activity rooms and is estimated to open in early fall, 1999.

"The Bond Park Community Center was designed as a multi-purpose facility to provide space for a variety of recreation opportunities for all ages," said Mary Barry, director of Cary’s Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Department. She added that efficiency of operations and long-term maintenance considerations were also important features of the design that will enable citizens to benefit from the facility for many years. "This center represents another example of Cary’s continuing emphasis on the quality of life for our community," said Barry.

Cary’s first community center was opened in 1991 with a construction cost of $2.1 million. It is located at 404 N. Academy Street. The Cary Master Plan for Parks, Greenways, & Bikeways calls for four additional community centers--6 total--by the year 2010.
