Town Manager Honored as Citizen of the Year

TOWN MANAGER HONORED AS
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

CARY, NC -- Cary Town Manager William B. Coleman, Jr. has been named Citizen of the Year by the Cary Chamber of Commerce. The surprise announcement was made on Thursday night at the Chamber’s annual banquet held this year at Cary’s Embassy Suites. One award is given each year to a person who has distinguished him or herself over the last year in service to the community.

"I’m very proud of Bill," said Cary Mayor Koka Booth who presented the award to Coleman. "Bill does an outstanding job for our community. It was certainly time for him to be recognized."

In his acceptance remarks, Coleman attributed his success in large part to his staff and to the Cary Town Council. Speaking to the group, Coleman said, "The work that you value and attribute to me would not be possible without the tremendous effort given each day by our staff and our Council."

Coleman has over 21 years of experience as a Manager in North Carolina local government , including Pittsboro, Chatham County, and Southern Pines. He was also Assistant Manager in Cary for six years before being named Manager in 1994. Coleman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wake Forest University as well as a Masters of Arts degree in Public Affairs from NC State University He is also a graduate of the Municipal and County Administration Course from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Institute of Government.
